WILL SUSTAINABLE BUILDING BE A EUROPEAN REALITY WITH THE NEW DIRECTIVE?

The Slovenian Association for Sustainable Construction - GBC Slovenia attracted 135 participants from the field of construction to the 4th Conference of Sustainable Construction, held this year at the premises of the Knauf Insulation Experience Center (KIEXC) in Skofja Loka and other professionals who are involved in sustainable construction in terms of management, environment and economics. The focus of the conference, held during World Green Building Week, was on energy efficiency and reducing the environmental impact of buildings and the urgent reduction of carbon dioxide emissions from buildings throughout their life cycle. Representatives of the European Commission, the Italian and World WGBC Green Building Association focused on the implementation of Level (s) indicators in the European area, which is expected to begin in the second half of next year, and the urgent need to reduce the carbon footprint of buildings start building construction today. Participants were also introduced to the benefits of building certification under the DGNB Sustainability Scheme, as the conference was held in the first facility built in Slovenia to the highest possible standards of sustainable construction. The KIEXC facility is also the first in Slovenia to receive a Platinum DGNB certificate and the first Active House certified facility, as well as a pilot project by the European Commission to develop new sustainable construction guidelines called Level (s), which for the purposes of national sustainability indicators construction is also evaluated by the Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning. The last part of the conference was dedicated to the presentation of the situation and the gradual implementation of sustainable construction in the Slovenian territory, which is expected to take place within the CARE4CLIMATE project with well defined goals addressing the issues of environmental protection, nature conservation and climate change. JUB also spoke about energy management in an exceptionally successful and sustainably oriented local community, such as the municipality of Kočevje. JUB also presented its practical experience in sustainable construction. At the conclusion, the participants signed a pledge to support sustainable construction and a path to a carbon-free society.
